ROSE SULAK

| Art Therapy & Faith-Based Therapeutic Art

Rose is passionate about integrating faith and creativity. Creative practices are the energy of her faith life. Rose discovered the power of artmaking as an adult when the Lord used it to help her heal and move forward after a difficult time in her life. During this time, artmaking became a vital part of Rose’s relationship with the Lord as she prayerfully drew or painted, as a conversation, for prayers and scripture meditation.

Words are not always needed to express yourself or to receive the feelings and “words” of another. Artmaking allows people to express things they have no words for, process memories and emotions, grow in self-understanding, and hear others.

As a therapist, Rose focuses on the role of empathy in establishing safety, secure relationship, and a feeling of being truly heard and seen, all of which are vital to healing and growth. Rose approaches all clients–Christian and not Christian–from a place of compassion and non-judgement. She acknowledges that healing doesn’t always mean a return to the way things were before the problems began.

Sometimes healing is being able to make progress in the midst of struggles, and offering your broken places to God for his light to shine through, until the final healing comes.

Therefore, Rose uses a person-centered and trauma-informed approach to walk alongside clients in their personal journeys to becoming the people God designed them to be. As a Registered Art Therapist, Provisional, Rose has also received Master’s level training on how to use art materials therapeutically, in addition to the standard training for licensed professional counselors. She obtained her Master’s in Art Therapy with an Emphasis in Counseling from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. Rose completed her graduate practicum and internship at The Art Station, where she worked with clients from early elementary to older adult with a wide range of backgrounds and reasons for therapy.
